A not very timely note

This was a blog I once wrote during my high school and early college years. I keep it around for nostalgic purposes, but it is quite obviously no longer updated. I am looking to make a more professional blog presence in the future, but I still like to look at where I was mentally at certain points in time.

"Trust" by G.

Trust is an interesting concept. Interesting, because the only person you can trust with your life is yourself. Sounds pessimistic? Perhaps. But people don't make it in this world by being gullible. The rarity of finding someone very trustworthy makes trust a very valuable treasure. Being able to trust someone reveals much about that person. A person resistant to temptations, to weakness; a mind that carves out it's own choices. So why do I write about trust? No tangible reason other than to give a friendly reminder. I'm certainly no saint; perfection is an impossible goal. But when you lose trust with someone, a cord of friendship or loyalty that took hard time to create becomes severed. It sometimes feels like lies have become their own language; a dialect that wreaks havoc when the words are finally deciphered. Trust breeds loyalty; loyalty that will attract people to your side when others would flee.

On a lighter note, do you think Trust is a one time deal, or that it's possible to trust someone absolutely? Love to hear your thoughts on this.

I think most people hope that when they entrust someone with something, it's going to be that they can hold for a long time. If it was unimportant enough to matter for a short-term relationship, I wouldn't imagine it would be that important of a secret or other sort of information.

Yup, it's just a matter of entrusting the right person. Some people are a great judge of character; some have the bad luck of finding the iffy people.

Well is it more about the secret itself, or the trust? I would think that some people would be hurt when their trust is violated regardless of the importance of the secret. It depends on what kind of person you are I suppose.

I enjoyed your post and have to agree that the only person you can trust with your life is yourself - meaning absolute trust. I think that there are varying degrees of trust that you can give to others who DO inspire that loyalty and I think that certain degree of trust can last a lifetime, unless you are given a reason to change that.

I think being able to give absolute trust to another human being would be a very nice, but impossible dream. But definitely, we provide certain people with certain degrees of trust; I don't even think being a family member or a very close friend is a golden pass for blind trust, simply because we base trust off a person's actions and who we percieve them to be, not their "role". Most of the time anyway.
